Summit Fire
Current Cal Fire Status Report
4,270 acres burned in the Summit Fire. Here are pictures of the aftermath from Dave.
From the Cal Fire Fact Sheet:
"Firefighters truly appreciate the
support of the community over the last week."
Thank you
volunteers!

5/26 11:40 AM - Cal Fire has just released their re-entry plan. Croy and other roads will be open at 3:00.
5/26 6:00 AM - 70% contained, 3,970 acres.
5/25 7:30 PM - 60% contained, 3,920 acres. Loma Chiquita is far away from the fire line still and it hasn't spread today.
5/25 1:44 PM - Dave Ward has made a slideshow of all of the views from their house and the helicopter activity at his house and pond. Mary Ellen called Cal Fire, the Sheriff, CHP, and finally reached someone who will open Loma Chiquita Road.
5/25 9:00 AM - The fire has burned 3,870 acres and is 50% contained. Summit Road, Mt. Bache and Loma Prieta roads are open, but Loma Chiquita is closed at the Mt. Madonna Y. Why? We don't know. If you leave, the sheriff will take your driver's license and you will only be allowed to return to your home for 2 hours. Casa Loma is open. Helicopters are still draining Wards' pond on Loma Chiquita.
Here are new pictures of Thursday from Paul Vicha:
5/24 10:00 PM - Our firefighters are relieved. There are over 3,000 professionals on the job now. The north slop-over has been contained. Cal Fire will let it burn where it isn't threatening, but they have defended the north side of the Mt. Madonna ridgeline from coming at Loma Chiquita with ferocity and then the east northern burn from coming near us. The support has been amazing to watch. We were one of seven water tenders on duty Thursday. There are now almost fifty.

Chief 2 Steve on the line Thursday

Lots of air support today, including a military
helicopter draining Wards' pond. Got Koi?
5/24 4:00 PM - Firefighters are confident that they will have the northern slop-over contained by tonight. Summit Road to Highway 17 is sill CLOSED to incoming and now outgoing traffic. They will allow a brief entrance or exit if you give them your driver's license. There is still too much heavy equipment using the roads.
Our volunteer Scotty Lewis, a professional photographer and on the fire line since the start, sent these fantastic photos from the line:
Thursday at Maymens Flats and drafting from a
pond at Maymens - Chief Kylee with the evening fire.
We never thought we'd be putting new volunteer
Casey Crain to work so soon!
Chief Kylee - peace to all firefighters!
If you evacuate, please put signs on the road stating where your water source is, whether you left any animals, whether you have 100 feet or more of defensible space, and that there are no people at the house. This is very important for the firefighters. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR GAS BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
5/24 (Noon) - More pictures from Wards' house.
5/24 - Our volunteers have been relieved but are on stand-by and are preparing precautionary evacuation plans. Loma Chiquita is not currently threatened. Sveadal is under mandatory evacuation and Croy Road is closed. We advise all residents to have an evacuation plan in place for yourself and your animals. Evacuation tips are posted under News.
5/23 - Pictures of helicopters using Wards' pond.

Kim got blown into the brush taking some of
these pictures.
5/23 - Some of our volunteers were on the lines for 15 hours yesterday. They were scheduled for rotation today, but were all deployed to the Highland area.

5/22 - Volunteers are on site at the Summit Fire with our water tender. Please tune to your local news for information (and video of Craig Ponkey doing an amazing job coordinating). At this time, the wind is expected to stay from the North and no evacuations orders are in effect for this area. Please note that Summit Road is CLOSED.
